Nandan is a filmmaker and writer from Kerala, India, born in 1991. He worked as a civil engineer in Bengaluru before moving to Mumbai to pursue his passion for filmmaking. There, he started out in advertising films and went on to work as a director’s assistant on several major feature films.
He is best known for directing the acclaimed films Breath and Dreaming of Words, the latter earning him the National Film Award as both director and producer.
As an author, he has published four books: The Dream Balloon, Manam: The Chronicle of a Masturbator, New Desertlands, and Click, and has contributed to several comic anthologies.
His animated feature film project based on The Dream Balloon was a finalist in the Animation Filmmaker’s Competition at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in 2025.
In 2026, Nandan was selected as an Observer at Doc-Exchange, the first-ever India–UK pitch forum, organised by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT) in partnership with the British Council.
Nandan’s films have been screened at festivals and academic conferences around the world, earning widespread acclaim.
